Rheem ductwork repair in Dallas typically runs $150 – $650 installed depending on what failed: a collapsed flex run, a separated plenum connection, or a torn supply branch. We keep common Rheem-compatible duct fittings, collars, mastic, and flex duct on our trucks, so most repairs are completed same-day in one visit. Most Dallas homeowners discover the problem the hard way: one room stops cooling in August, the utility bill climbs $40 a month, and a ceiling register starts whistling when the blower kicks on.

Your Rheem system is only as good as the ductwork feeding it. A 16 SEER Rheem condenser paired to leaky, disconnected ductwork performs like a 10 SEER unit. We see it every week across Dallas, from Preston Hollow to Mesquite. The equipment is fine. The delivery system isn’t.
Which Rheem Models This Applies To
Ductwork is not model-specific the way a control board or blower motor is. Your Rheem furnace or air handler connects to ducts sized for its airflow output, measured in CFM, which is cubic feet per minute of air moved. What matters is matching the duct diameter and connection type to your specific Rheem unit, not whether it’s a Rheem Endeavor, Classic, or Prestige series.
That said, there’s one compatibility gotcha we run into often: Rheem air handlers built after 2015 frequently ship with a factory plenum collar sized for 20-inch flex. Older Rheem units often used 18-inch. If someone patched a new unit onto old ductwork with a reducer, the system chokes on airflow, the evaporator coil runs colder than designed, and you get freeze-ups. We verify the collar size against your unit’s spec plate before quoting anything.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for ductwork, OEM means almost nothing. Rheem doesn’t manufacture flex duct, collars, or mastic. What matters is buying UL-listed duct rated for Texas attic temperatures, quality sheet-metal collars with a proper S-lock, and mastic that stays flexible. We use aftermarket material that matches or exceeds what the original installer used. You’ll get the brand names and gauge on the written estimate.

Signs Your Rheem Ductwork Repair Is Failing
- One or two rooms run 5 – 8 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. This usually means a supply branch has separated from the trunk line or a flex run has collapsed. The conditioned air is dumping into your attic instead of your bedroom.
- Dust accumulates unusually fast on furniture even with a clean filter. A return-side leak pulls unfiltered attic air, insulation fibers, and fine dust directly into the system, bypassing the filter entirely.
- You hear a whistling or fluttering from a register when the blower runs. Air is escaping through a gap or tear under pressure. The noise is the system telling you exactly where the leak is if you listen.
- Your upstairs stays warm while the downstairs freezes, or vice versa. Dallas two-story homes often suffer from improperly balanced trunks. A damper broke loose, or a branch was undersized from day one.
- Utility bills climb in a season when nothing else changed. Leaky ductwork means 20 – 30% of the air you paid to condition never reaches the room. Your Rheem works harder to hit the thermostat setpoint, and the bill shows it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what ductwork repair costs in Dallas, installed, with a real breakdown:
- Small repair (single flex run, 6 – 10 feet): $150 – $300
- Moderate repair (repair separated plenum or trunk connection, re-mastic 3 – 4 joints): $250 – $450
- Larger repair (multiple branch replacements, partial trunk patch, air balancing): $450 – $650
- Full duct replacement (whole system, if the assessment shows it’s time): $3,500 – $7,500 paired with your AC install pricing
Every repair includes the written price before we start, the labor to open and reseal the affected area, materials matched to your Rheem system’s airflow spec, and cleanup. We don’t leave attic debris behind. The repair is guaranteed in writing for a full year under The Garrison Standard. If it fails in that window, we return at no charge. That’s not an add-on promise. It’s the terms.
DIY or Call Us?
Ductwork is one of the safer things to look at yourself, unlike high-voltage wiring or gas valves. You can go into the attic, visually inspect flex runs for kinks, tears, or disconnected collars, and feel for air leaks around register boots with a damp hand. What you shouldn’t do is climb through a Dallas attic in July without proper ventilation. Attic temps hit 130 degrees by 11 a.m., even in the spring. Heat exhaustion happens fast.
The DIY job that goes wrong is a tape-only repair. Foil tape fails in Texas heat within two seasons. Proper duct sealing uses mastic, a brush-on adhesive compound that stays flexible and holds for the life of the duct. The second DIY mistake is buying the wrong flex duct R-value. Dallas requires R-8 minimum for attic installations under most local codes. R-6 sold at the big-box stores doesn’t meet code and costs you money in lost cooling. We use R-8, and we seal with mastic, not tape. Call (254) 280-5320 for a written estimate, and Marco Benitez will quote it flat before any work starts. Tell me what’s wrong, I’ll tell you what it costs – in writing, before we start.
FAQs
Flex duct in Texas attics lasts 15 – 20 years on average before the outer jacket degrades, the inner liner tears, or the insulation compresses into uselessness. Dallas heat is brutal on it: silver reflective radiant barrier facing breaks down from constant high-heat exposure, and once the jacket fails, the duct loses its ability to hold conditioned air at temperature.
Most problems are repairable: a separated collar takes 20 minutes to reconnect and re-seal, a torn flex run costs a few hundred dollars to replace. Replacement only makes financial sense when multiple runs are failing and the original install was undersized or improperly supported. We quote the repair honestly and tell you when patching stops making sense. Call (254) 280-5320 for an assessment; the estimate is free.
Most single-run repairs and connection re-seals take 45 minutes to 2 hours. Multiple branch replacements or trunk patches can run a half-day. We tell you the window when we book the call, and we arrive inside it. That’s the Garrison Code, and it’s how we’ve operated since 2003.
We stock 6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch R-8 flex duct, sheet-metal collars in common sizes, take-off fittings, mastic, and replacement register boots on every service truck. If your repair needs a specialty fitting, we get it from our Dallas supply house the same day. We also service Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, York, Daikin, Bryant, and American Standard systems alongside Rheem, so the truck is loaded for whatever we find.
Rheem ductwork problems only get worse the longer they wait. Dallas heat finds every gap, every year. Call Dalton Heating & Air Dallas at (254) 280-5320 and get a flat written price, a same-day appointment when available, and a repair guaranteed in writing for a full year.
