Daikin heat pump service in Dallas typically runs $150 – $650 depending on the failed part, and we stock the most common Daikin components on our trucks for same-day replacement in most cases. The parts we replace most often are the reversing valve, the defrost control board, the outdoor fan motor, and the thermistor sensors, all of which we can diagnose with a multimeter and a pressure gauge rather than guesswork.

Most Dallas homeowners discover a failed Daikin component the hard way: the system runs but the air coming out of the registers is room temperature on a 98-degree afternoon. Or the outdoor unit is encased in ice in January while the indoor blower keeps blowing cold air. The part has already failed by the time you notice. What matters is matching the replacement to your exact model so you’re not back in the same spot next season. We do that with model and serial number verification before we ever quote a price.
Dalton Heating & Air Dallas is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Daikin. We service all Daikin residential heat pump lines and keep OEM and quality aftermarket parts on hand.
Which Daikin Models This Applies To
We service the full Daikin residential heat pump lineup sold in North Texas: the entry-level DZ13SA and DZ14SA, the mid-range DZ16SA, the higher-efficiency DZ17VSA and DZ18TC, and the flagship DZ20VC variable-speed inverter units. If your condenser label shows “DZ” followed by a number, it’s a Daikin heat pump and we can match the part.
The compatibility gotcha to know: Daikin changed their control board architecture between the DZ14SA and DZ16SA generations. A defrost board from a 2014 DZ14SA will not communicate with a 2018 DZ14SA, even though both units look nearly identical from the outside. That’s why we pull the model number, serial number, and the board’s part number off the actual unit before we quote a replacement. The label is on the side of the outdoor cabinet behind the access panel.
On the OEM versus aftermarket decision for Daikin specifically: Daikin’s OEM reversing valves and thermistors are built to tolerances that matter on inverter-driven systems, which modulate compressor speed. We recommend OEM for anything on the refrigerant circuit or the inverter drive. For non-critical items like a contactor or a capacitor, a quality aftermarket component from a supplier we vet works fine and often saves 25-40% on the part cost. We’ll show you both options in writing and let you decide.

Signs Your Daikin Heat Pump Service Is Failing
- Outdoor unit is running but no heat or cool air arrives inside. This is the classic reversing valve failure symptom. The valve gets stuck in one position, so the system can’t switch between heating and cooling modes. You’ll often hear a hissing or whooshing sound at the outdoor unit.
- The outdoor coil is frozen solid in winter with the fan running. The defrost control board or the defrost thermistor has failed. The unit is supposed to throw itself into a defrost cycle every 30 to 90 minutes when frost builds. When that circuit dies, ice accumulates until the whole condenser is a block and the compressor is at risk of damage.
- The outdoor fan motor hums but does not spin, or spins slower than it should. Daikin uses electronically commutated motors on the variable-speed lines. They fail more often than old-school PSC motors, and when they go, the system will shut down on high head pressure within minutes. You’ll notice the unit starts, runs briefly, then clicks off.
- The system short cycles: starts, runs two or three minutes, shuts down, repeats. A failing thermistor feeding wrong temperature data to the control board will do this every time. The board thinks the coil is hotter or colder than it actually is, and it shuts the compressor down to protect itself.
- Error codes flashing on the wall controller or blinking LED on the outdoor board. Daikin units store fault codes that tell us exactly which sensor or circuit failed. Write down the code, or just read it to us over the phone at (254) 280-5320 and we’ll tell you what it means before we even roll a truck.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what Daikin heat pump service and common part replacement actually costs in Dallas, installed:
- Defrost control board replacement: $250 – $450, depending on your model series
- Thermistor sensor replacement: $180 – $320, usually both sensors replaced at once
- Reversing valve replacement: $500 – $650, includes refrigerant recovery, valve swap, vacuum, and recharge
- Outdoor fan motor replacement: $300 – $550, varies by motor type (PSC vs ECM)
- Diagnostic service call: $89, waived when you approve the repair
The price you get from Dalton Heating & Air Dallas is a written, flat price before we touch anything. No hourly billing. No surprise fees at the door. That’s The Garrison Standard we’ve operated under since 2003. What drives the range on these prices is which Daikin series you own and whether you choose OEM or aftermarket for non-critical parts. Every repair also carries a written guarantee for a full year. If the repair fails inside that year, we return at no charge. That’s not an upgrade or an add-on. It’s included on every service call we run.

Some things you can check without opening a panel. Confirm the thermostat is set correctly and the circuit breaker hasn’t tripped. Look at the outdoor coil: if it’s matted with cottonwood fuzz and grass clippings, which we see across Oak Cliff and Mesquite every spring, wash it gently with a garden hose. Clean the air filter inside. Those free checks fix a surprising number of “broken” heat pumps.
What you should not do is open the outdoor cabinet and start testing capacitors or boards. The capacitor inside a Daikin outdoor unit stores enough voltage to stop your heart even when the power is off at the breaker. And the inverter-driven models carry high-voltage DC current at the compressor terminals. Textbook stuff for a trained tech, genuinely dangerous for a homeowner with a YouTube video. Marco Benitez and every tech on our crew are factory-trained to service Daikin systems and do it by the book, every time.

FAQs
Most Daikin heat pump parts last 10 – 15 years, but Dallas shortens that for outdoor components because our summers push the outdoor unit to run 1,800 to 2,200 hours a year. A defrost board that might last 14 years in Minneapolis often fails in year 9 or 10 here. The reversing valve and outdoor fan motor are the two parts we see fail earliest in this market, usually after 8 to 12 years of Texas heat. If your unit is past year 12 and needs a $600 reversing valve, Marco will give you the repair-versus-replace numbers straight and let you decide with your wallet, not our commission. Call (254) 280-5320 for an exact quote on your system.
On the components we’re talking about here, no. A reversing valve with a stuck slide can sometimes be freed temporarily by tapping it, but that’s a band-aid that fails again. Thermistors and control boards are solid-state and cannot be rebuilt. The honest answer is that part replacement is the repair. The good news is the swap is usually done in under two hours once we’re on site. Call (254) 280-5320 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether your symptoms point to a repairable issue or a replaceable part.
Most Daikin heat pump service calls for a single failed part take 60 to 120 minutes on site. The reversing valve is the exception: it requires recovering the refrigerant, brazing in the new valve, pulling a vacuum, and recharging the system, which puts that job at 2.5 to 4 hours. We’ll give you a time window and hit it. Arriving inside the stated window is part of The Garrison Code every location operates under. Call (254) 280-5320 for scheduling.
We stock the most common Daikin parts on our trucks: defrost boards for DZ14SA and DZ16SA lines, thermistors, capacitors, contactors, and fan motors for the common frame sizes. Specialty items like an OEM reversing valve for a DZ20VC might need a next-day pickup from our Dallas parts supplier, and we’ll tell you that before we schedule the repair so there are no surprises. Dalton Heating & Air Dallas also carries parts for the other brands we service: Carrier, Trane, and Lennox. Call (254) 280-5320 with your model number and we’ll tell you right then whether we have your part on the truck.
